What is a Divorce Hearing?

What is it?

All divorces that are filed in Australia have a divorce hearing. Normally it is just a procedural event where a judicial officer will just process the paper work for divorce and approve the application. Most people do not attend their Divorce Hearing, as there is no requirement for you to do so.

A Divorce Hearing is heard in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.

The Court will allocate a court date after the relevant documents required have been filed. The Registrar will then decide whether the divorce will be granted.

You may have to attend your Divorce Hearing, please read our article on attending court for a divorce.
